INTO THE HEART OF AFRICA

SCROLL DOWN

INTO THE HEART OF AFRICA

EDUCATION CHANGES EVERYTHING

Whether it is a missionary family needing a teacher for their children, or a literacy program bringing education to a rural desert village, education unlocks the future for everyone!

We are the Johnsons, and we are going to Chad, Africa to work on education initiatives with missionary kids and the Daza people.

Impact a child's life forever!

How it began

It's coming up on three years since we walked across the desert sand in the tiny village of Teriturenne. We were there to visit the school where children are learning to read and write in their tribal language, Dazaga. But when we left Chad--after that 4-week trip--we knew that we would be back someday.

And now we feel God has opened the door for us to go back to Chad! We are stepping out in faith and preparing to be in Chad by the fall.

12 hours north of N'Djamena, the capital city of Chad--long after the paved road fades into a dirt road, and the dirt road into sand tracks, and sand tracks into intuition--sits the tiny village of Teriturenne. A recently built school is changing the lives of these villagers as they learn to read and write in their tribal language, the language of their heart, Dazaga.

With colorful children's books, written in their language, full of pictures of animals they have only heard of and insects they find crawling around in the sand, these children experience the same wonder and excitement that you see when you watch a kid look at a book and read on their own!

One local villager described it as "freedom." It was very clear to him that education, and this village school, is bringing freedom to a generation that has been at a disadvantage because of historically high illiteracy rates.

We are excited to be a part of changing that--to be a part of bringing freedom through literacy and education.
